Me: I will still buy it.  Walker! Put the pieces back together of our sweet late 90s (or 2000?) Atlantic Division title year!

Andy: Don’t we already have a late-90s/2000 dream team in place?

Sidenote: I think Kenny Anderson and Eric Williams currently star in some horrible basic cable drivel called “Basketball Wives,” in which they’re documented consistently neglecting their families and sparring with their lunatic skank spouses. Also, according to my eyeballs last night, Tony Battie continues to exist (albeit in Sixers paint), and Vitaly Potapenko is likely available for a burlap sack of wheat, assuming his current village in interested.

Not bad, perfect season. I have a feeling that next year’s team won’t quite live up to that, but we can always hope.

So we are basically trotting out the All Star team for half a decade+ ago, but it will be awesome to see all of them together none the less. Andy made the point that he needs to get to a game this season (ending his embargo on the NBA) just to be able to tell his kids he saw all those players on the court together.
The opening game (at home) will be fairly stacked. You have Shaq, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, Rondo (probably HOF), Jermaine O’Neal, Lebron, D-Wade and Chris Bosh all on the court together. As much as its basically the retired veteren all stars vs current all stars and has potential to be a bloodbath, I think Boston comes out extra strong for this game and keeps it close. Or the bloodbath, we’ll see I guess.

I’d give anything to hear Tommy bellow, “RoRo yuh boat!” at the top of his overworked lungs.

That last line is only completely hilarious if you’ve watched enough Celtics games to really actually hear him saying that in your head.

But with a championship and a couple of successful seasons under the belt, due in almost no part to him, all that has changed. People love Scals. People, white people, can relate to him. A little overweight, kind of awkward and somewhat amusing. And did I mention he was white?

But, this one was pretty fun- Ray Allen was bombing clutch threes like he was the computer in NBA Jam. Remember how you always needed a four point lead in that game in order to win? The Bobcats could have had a three point lead with two seconds left with Gerald Wallace flying through the air doing a hundred flips, prepared to boom shakalaka, and Ray Allen would have somehow shoved him midair, picked up the loose ball, and bombed it in from his own baseline. He could not be denied.

He covered up for some truly awful performances from his front line. Perkins was handling the ball as if it were a live explosive (7 turnovers). Big Baby was 1-4 from the floor in 39 minutes. Mikki Moore had 5 fouls in 13 minutes. Mikki plays defense like he’s a groper on a subway car. An opposing player is just standing there and Mikki comes sprinting in, grabs the guy’s tits and grinds on him.

The other interesting little nugget from this game is that the Celtics are now in second place in the East. That’s great, because the Pistons are in seventh place and Iverson is hinting that he wants to retire. What a teammate. I know they’re the Pistons, with all that fake mystique, but they are a complete shitshow. If both teams stay put, that would be a tasty first round matchup for our C’s. Much better than facing Dwayne Wade, the refs, and the rest of the Miami Heat in round 1. This scenario admittedly isn’t likely considering that the Pistons are spiraling out of control and the Bulls are finally getting their act together… but a boy can dream, can’t he?”

As rocky as his performance in the playoffs was, I don’t think last year’s Cassell signing was a complete loss (he did help them win in San Antonio), but this seems far more terrifying. It’s like intentionally injecting yourself with the hypodermic needle I found in the parking lot next to my car last week, just to see if being a diabetic is as tough as everyone says.”
