New Music Friday

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

TGIF, am I right? AM I RIGHT??  Okay, well whatever, here are some new tunes that you probably won’t hear at my party this weekend, unless Joe or I get really saucy on the ones and twos Saturday night.

Parry Gripp – Baby Monkey (Going Backwards on a Pig)

Simply put: Musical genius.

Christopher Cross – Ride Like the Wind

Does anyone know why the “budda bah bah, bah bahhh” (shut up don’t know how to translate that into words) in the chorus sounds so familiar? Is it from this song or another one? Driving me out of my mind why I can’t place this. And oh yeah, the song rules.

Redman and Method Man – Blow Your Mind (live in Paris)

90′s music shout out! This is a clip from a friend of a friend’s ski video edit, $20 for whoever can send me the full length version of this song, from this live set, I have the studio version which isn’t as “mind blowing” <-- see what I did there?? Anyway, the beat is one the best I've heard, not to mention this edit is sick.

Side note: who’s stoked to hit the slopes? If you are fb friends with me, you’ve probably noticed I’m mildly interested in the start of the season.

New Music Friday: Two Door Cinema Club & Phoenix

Friday, October 15th, 2010

Disclaimer: None of these songs are new, at all. However, both these bands are headed to Agannis Monday, and if you don’t have tickets you should get some because its going to rule.

The opening act is a group call Two Door Cinema Club, and though most people in the ‘States don’t know them, they are pretty solid. Definitely one of the best opening acts anyone attending this show will see.

Undercover Martyn

Something Good Can Work

And then there is Phoenix, if you don’t know them you should promptly close your browser window and please never return to my website. Haven’t seen them in person but everyone that has said their shows are awesome, and I’m sure this one in such a small venue won’t disappoint.

1901

If I Ever Feel Better (this is one of their old school songs, Katie will probably cry if they don’t play it)

New Music Friday

Friday, October 8th, 2010

It’s finally nice out again, but in case anyone is wondering what being in London is like, its like this week has been, all the time.  Gross.  Kind of glad I had that reminder last week since I was getting sad about not moving there when I had the chance.  Also everything is 3x more expensive.  Great to visit, but living/working there is rough.  Anyway, if the sun hasn’t done it already, on to some tunes that will certainly cheer you up and hey, its the weekend! Get rowdy! Take off your pants and party!  Er, uh, actually, well whatever, I’ll stick with that.  Enjoy!

The Silver Seas – What’s the Drawback

Thanks to Kurt for this one (<-shout out!). I would like to classify this one as “funky chill” but Kurt has a more apt comparison; Steely Dan. Agreed.

The Wombats – Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)

Cali Swag District- Teach me How To Dougie

Yeah this song is everywhere, but not with a PANDA doing it. Thanks to Katie for the instructional video from the zoo.

Bed Intruder Song – Itunes Version

Well I posted this a while ago, but just because its awesome, here it is again.

The Double Rainbow Song

Not sure how long this version of the Double Rainbow video has been out, I might be behind the times, but I just found this, and I’m into it.

New Music Friday

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Hi. Here is some new music:

Keane – Stop for a Minute
Thanks to Andy for providing me with this one, easily my favorite song of the moment. Video is a little weird first time watching it, but for some reason the second time I threw it on I liked it a lot more. The song however, is awesome right from the first go.

Hoodie Allen – January Jones

More white people rapping! Huzzah!

The Wombats – Tokyo (Grum Remix)
The regular song is pretty good but I like the beat of this one better, make sure to skip ahead from the straight fist pumping start, the rest isn’t nearly as head pounding.

Bill Withers – Lovely Day

A little old school chill out funky time.

New Music Friday

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Due to getting in at 1am tonight, heading out at 7am for the Hampton’s and Biggie’s wedding tomorrow, then London right after that, this post will only contain one, very new, very awesome, song. Courtesy of Wonn, thanks for keeping me hip.

OK Go – White Knuckles
This is a pretty good song by OK Go, but the video has tons of dogs in it, so it rules. Enjoy.

Friday Beats

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Admittedly this section and my site as a whole has been suffering from a bit of neglect due to the fact I’ve recently only been home a few days a month. Anyway, here are some awesome new (and old) songs:

Milli Vanilli – Blame it on the Rain

It’s gross here today, and Wonn had this has her status message so I’m going to put it in here cause its obviously awesome (or I wouldn’t be putting up):

Wale – The Work

He is still killing it. That is all.

Magnetic Man ft. John Legend

“Supergroup” (copyright M5 2001) Magnetic Man teams up with John Legend to create a tune that tones down their usually fist pumping beat to something more palatable to people (like myself) who aren’t really into the house scene. Definitely closer to something you’d expect from John Legend than Magnetic Man.

Santana ft. Nas – Back in Black (AC/DC Cover)

Santana has a face melting guitar solo in here, never hear him on electric before I don’t think?

Rusko – Hold On

Probably too much techno for most, but if you are into that type of music its a great tune.

Kanye West – Good Friday

Because its Friday.

New Music Thurs..er Friday

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I will actually probably post this on Friday, but I’m stuck in an airport right now.. ironically (I think?) not because of hurricane Earl II (<-- the second?) but because of a "mechanical issue" which is making me miss my connecting flight (<--favorite thing evar!) (<-- next to parens right now). Anyway, here it is, the newest hottest beats y'all have been looking for. Play them at your hurricane parties this weekend.

iTunes Version of the Bed Intruder Song
Okay, not really new, but definitely awesome. Thanks to Cantu for this link. Hide yo’ daughtas! Hide yo’ wives! Errbody gettin’ raped up in here!

Miami Horror – Holidays
Hello funky disco. Man I couldn’t be happier that disco/funk is making a pseudo-resurgence in the form of these type of songs. If you can listen to this and not be in a good mood / want to dance / drink / party / have an awesome time then you are a soulless individual who probably hates puppies and happiness.

Bruno Mars ft. Cee Lo Green & B.o.B. – Otherside
All star cast produces a song you’d expect from the three of them working together.

New Music Friday

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Alright so New Music Friday has sometimes not been on Friday, and more often than not contained songs that aren’t exactly new. I’m writing this on a Thursday, I will probably publish it today as well, making it again, not Friday. BUT I do promise that the majority, or at least one, of these songs are actually pretty new. Enjoy the weekend, rock out, come hang out on the island we have booked for the weekend, whatever floats your proverbial boat.

The Limousines – Internet Killed The Video Star
Zombie themed movie thing is a little weird, but the song itself is pretty solid.

Justice – DANCE
Okay, yeah, this is really not new at all, in fact it is quite old, possibly years old. But I felt like putting it in here cause I heard it the other day and its funky. Deal. Plus the video is entertaining and far less strange as compared to the zombie one.

Shy Child – Disconnected

Shiny Toy Guns – Burning for You (Cover)

Kristoff Kane – Work
He has a bunch of solid tunes, look him up.

Music Friday Hollaa

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Tokyo Police Club – Wait Up
Okay I meant to post this one approximately a month ago, because it just may be one of the best music videos I’ve ever seen.  I won’t spoil it, but, if you like dogs as much as I like commas in this paragraph, you will love this video.   The reason they used the dogs in this video is because 100% of the proceeds  for the purchase of the songs/videos go to the ASPCA (prevention of cruelty to animals).    Good band, great song, better video, enjoy:

Mike Posner – Evil Woman (sort of cover, definitely more than sort of awesome)

The Roots – Right On (ft. Joanna Newsome)

Two Door Cinema Club – Undercover Martyn
Another one that has been out forever, but posting this in honor of the fact they will be playing in conjunction with Phoenix at Agganis this fall, tickets on sale Saturday. You may also remember them from my last post with a slightly newer song of theirs, Something Good Can Work.

Natasha Bedingfield – Touch
Doesn’t quite grab and hold your ears hostage as much so as her original absolute masculinity killing song, Unwritten, but still pretty solid and out just in time for the end of summer.

La Roux – Bulletproof
This was definitely a hit last year overseas but seems to be making its way into an increasingly “techno” accepting American music scene. Anyway, sure most of you have heard it by now either way, but if not, welcome to 2009 in all its Euro-filled glory with this video.

That is all for this Friday, go forth with your new (or old) music and enjoy the weekend!

New Feature: Music, the Best

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Since people are always asking me for good new music, I’ve decided to occasionally add a few songs here that are awesome. I don’t want to turn this into a music blog, or make any promises I’ll regularly (like weekly) add songs, but I’ll shoot for every Friday since that is when I usually comb the tubes for new hot beatz.

So without further ado, I bring you this Friday’s list of awesome, potentially not new but still great, tunes that you’ve probably never heard:

LCD Soundsystem & Franz Ferdinand – All My Friends – this version is way better than the non-Franz one

Grum – LA Lights

RL Burnside – Let My Baby Ride (let it go for a minute when it starts to rock)

Vampire Weekend – Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac cover) – probably best cover song ever, by anyone.  no room for debate so don’t even bother.

Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work

Delorean – Stay Close

Lazee ft. Neverstore – Hold On – kind of old now, but great song, better video.
